Radiate
03:49
|
|||
She took back the sunlight that she gave
And disappeared down the loneliest highway.
I am resting low on this day because
Somewhere where I'm not she radiates
And I don't mind-
Or do I mind?
In the night this light is about to burst
And all the good lines get lost in the verse.
I am just a subtle glow on this day because
Somewhere where I'm not she radiates
And I don't mind.
Or do I mind?
I don't mind.
I don't mind.
All my days are slowly fading gray
Cause somewhere where I'm not she radiates.

Whistle Stop
03:32
|
|||
It's the end of the line-
Your train rolled through the time
And now all your Graces
And your Legacies stand.
Don't whisper softly the things
That you want loudly to be
-Be like a wave.
-Leave impressions on the sand.
Because that whistle stop is coming strong
And big machines are hard to stop.
So, I'll leave behind use to be's
And in that horizon, we'll leave to the dirt roads
Regret and Disdain.
Every sun is going to fade
But in the morning rays
I hear a songbird singing your name.
Where it stops I can't say
But those warm summer days
Roll by like cars on a train.
And people everywhere are looking back,
Crying on their hands
And on their knees
Because it's the end of the line.
Your train rolled through the time
So I'll say goodbye to the people you know.
Don't whisper softly the things
That you want loudly to be-
Oh my, how your legacy glows!
That whistle stop is coming strong-
It shows no signs of slowing down for this town.
That whistle stop is coming strong
And big machines are hard to stop.

Gravity
05:18
|
|||
There's a reason we're here, nailed to the ground;
We could be in the atmosphere
But Gravity is keeping us down.
I'm under a sky that hangs by a string.
The planets are falling down
And orbits are slowing down
But I for one believe I don't belong in a life of looking up.
So, tie me to a bird and I'll touch the sun
And I will not come down for anything less than Gravity.
Ah, Heaven? It's closed just for tonight
And there are thousands of homeless angels that cannot take flight.
They drop like a stone and like solid gold.
Their feathers are crushing my bones
And this weight on my shoulders has shown me that this thing is real-
And it ruins everything
But I for one believe I don't belong always looking up.
So, tie me to a bird and I'll touch the sun
And I will not come down for anything less than Gravity.
Oh, I for one believe I don't belong in a life of looking up.
So, tie me to that bird and I'll touch that sun
And I will not come down for anything less than Gravity.
This Gravity is taking me.
Oh, my god, please believe in me;
I will not come down.

Babysitting the Cowboy
03:39
|
|||
My memories are a series of backyard cul-de-sacs
That smell of fresh cut grass and juniper.
Wyoming sunsets burned and
Crickets sang their hearts as the sky turned orange
And mother called us in from the day.
In one particular backyard
Sat a stagnant John Deer tractor that remained
Green all year round
As it rested quietly in the shade
Of the Bellevue Alley shrubbery
(No more than ten feet from the fence line).
A younger Me could turn the ruins of
Once Great Machines into a dream.
This useless tractor was fully functional
In the eyes of a younger me-
Those eyes saw fearlessly a cowboy
With buckles and leather and mouths to feed
And dried up fields that desperately
Need a farmer's touch.
A younger Me could go and do great things in the shade,
While the rest of the yard was green-
How it glistened in the sunlight.
Lisa. Please watch over me;
Write it down in your memory that I-
I was a child lost in a daydream.
She would say Only boring people get bored.
So, today I'll be plowing a field and
Corralling cattle before the dust storm.
Disintegrating are the chances for our lunch break-
There is too much work to be done today and
The cattle won't milk themselves.

Miles from Bed
06:15
|
|||
Under the twilight and miles from bed
We drank with a heart-ache to cure.
After the moonlight began to ascend,
I do believe, that we touched that limit for sure.
The truth came out as the beers went down
And we walked on the edge of the night
Telling our stories of Ghosts that have died
And these dime-a-dozen lovers that we can't replace-
Never tried.
It was night, but then the sky lit up instead.
It was blue, then beautiful red.
This night is mostly dead
But I am miles from bed.
These are conversations that need to be had
To know just how it feels to really be sad.
We spent the night talking like we were the best-
Always hiding the secret that, my friend,
We are just like the rest and
It was night, but then the sky lit up instead.
It was blue, then beautiful red.
This night is mostly dead
But I am miles from bed.
The daylight has come and the moonlight is fading
Like the thousands of days that we have spent waiting
For someone to come down from the sky
To sing us to sleep
And stay til we close our eyes.
It was night, until the sky lit up instead.
It was blue, then the most beautiful red I have ever seen.
This night is mostly dead
But I am miles from bed.

Nameless Beautiful
05:03
|
|||
Beautiful eyes,
They go lovely with the shirt you've got on.
I am twisted in your stare
Because baby's got her blue jeans on
(And she put them on herself awful tight).
Beautiful Lady
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Those aren't my words-
That's not my heart
But you should know I feel that way.
You should know but you have no idea.
I tried to tell you once as you disappeared.
You should know this but you don't;
We could have it all together but you have no idea.
Like no other here before,
You are some kind of Nameless Beautiful.
A beautiful painting of the autumn
Does no justice for the trees and
You are above this serenade
And these words I write are cheating as we speak.
You should know but you have no idea.
I tried to tell you once as you disappeared.
You should know this but you don't;
We could have it all together but you have no idea.
Like no other here before,
You are some kind of Nameless Beautiful.
I remember it well
Because you had sunlight in your hair.
You should know but you have no idea.
I tried to scream my heart as you disappeared.
You should know this but you don't;
We could have it all together but you have no idea.
Like no other here before,
You are some kind of Nameless--
And I would love to keep it all.

It looks like a battle field;
This October sun has lost its appeal
And as it disappeared,
The summer solstice became cigarette light.
It looks like the end of the world
And the gold leaves curl and brace for the Apocalypse
At the end of days-
(When that sky turns to gray from what use to be neon).
What I feel like as winter comes;
I feel the need for summer
Because those days are leaving us one by one.
What I feel like as winter comes;
I'm like a secret lover whispering,
Sunshine, can I see you again?
And no one is answering.
It looks like it's here to stay-
Please, go away!
All you've brought us here is a misery filled darker day-
That sky has been gray (for what feels like decades).
What I feel like as winter comes;
I feel the need for summer
Because those days are leaving us one by one.
What I feel like as winter comes;
I'm like a secret lover whispering,
Sunshine, can I see you again?
And no one is answering.
All I'd give just to see you again...
Please, break through the clouds and come in.

I Might Be Gone
03:54
|
|||
I might be gone by the end of this day
When my soul retires and drifts into space
And all of my life is at the mercy of grace-
Remember me time, as I float away.
I might be gone in ten thousand days
When all of my life is rocking chair gray.
I hope I go in the middle of a crowd-
They'll remember me then
Because people get use to having people around.
Our memories remain through the poets and songs-
They are filling the graves with history's bones.
We all sink by the side of the afternoon light-
What can you expect...
We are mortals in time.
And in time, I might get old.
I might retire.
I might have little ones with minds I inspire.
I might get lucky and they'll remember this song-
I hope it happens cause I might be gone.

The Sequel
03:30
|
|||
Leaving you is the hardest thing a man can do.
Will we make it til the morning? She had to refuse.
Should we burn something down
Just because it's gotten so cold?
Leaving you is the hardest thing a man can do.
So long darling, you're a terrible thing to waste
But if we're always in the middle,
Then we're never getting out of this place.
I needed change but all along
I've been living these yesterdays.
So, so long darling, you're a terrible thing to waste.
And you better trust not to hope-
It left here a long time ago and
Love always dies in August
Didn't you know?
Leaving you is the only thing a man can do.
Forgetting you is just a consequence that I'll have to choose.
Like a light that burns out,
But leaves a stinging in your eyes,
Leaving you is the hardest thing a man can do.

Turpentine
03:23
|
|||
Fix yourself with crooked wings
And damn yourself for doing mortal things.
In the wake of filthy hands there is nothing pure-
My testimony stands.
I'll tell the world with a crooked grin
I've got no more-
I've got no more to give.
I use to try my best til I stopped trying.
Now, my sins are just some paint that will wait to dry
Because if the King exists, his heart is like a Lions'
And he will wash it all away with turpentine.
Faith is empty promises so I'll stick with Hope-
It's got more room to give.
In the wake of filthy hands there is nothing pure-
My testimony stands.
So, I'll tell the world with a crooked grin
I've got no more-
I've got no room to give.
I use to try my best til I stopped trying.
Now, my sins are just some paint that will wait to dry
Because if the King exists, his heart is like a Lions'
And he will wash it all away with turpentine.

Plaid
06:24
|
|||
We are so many colors
And lines that crossing just right.
We are mixing to plaid
Cause how sad it would be to be white.
I am the river,
I'm pining for something- I'm blue.
I circled the mountain Elizabeth-
I was red for you.
I like those colors; the orange and the chrome and the sky
As I am driving by.
If colors show how I feel,
I am colors mixed in a wheel.
We are so many colors
And lines that crossing just right.
Always mixing to plaid
Cause how sad it would be to be white.
You people are leaving
But all the emotions, they stay
As shades and as colors and as vices
Too many to say.
Still, I like those colors; the orange and the chrome and the sky
As I am driving by.
If colors show how I feel,
I am colors mixed in a wheel.
Go to sleep.
Please, forget these things...
I've said too much
But that's what I do.
Or, while you dream,
Recreate these things
And feel the same as I do
Cause then you can say,
I like the colors, the orange and the chrome and the sky.
