about

After remixing 'This Too Shall Pass' for a private project, producer Max Keene then asked me, "Do you have any others?" The result of my answer is this lovely 5-track EP that I'm proudly offering for free. A slight departure from my traditional sound, this fresh collaboration features the aforementioned remix and four other songs of both universal and individual triumph.

Track Name: Ramblin Kind
Ain't it like the wind to never want to stay;
Something finally touches down
And all at once a gust comes and takes it away.
That old wind is here- then it's gone.
That old wind is hell-bent on moving on.

So, let's just say She knows how to go away;
How to keep from standing still
Just like a river, fast cars, birds and trains.
Let's just say She's sailing as we speak.
Let's just say She's fading by degrees.

Showing tell-tale signs that She's alive,
Everybody is leaving something sometime.
Always leaving or being left behind,
We're infamously all the Ramblin Kind.

Some would say I roam and that I'm made of stone
But they don't know what I know--
I know once you're in my heart, there is no getting out.
Some would say I'm planted in the ground.
Some would say I'm impossible to pin down.

Showing tell-tale signs that I'm alive,
Everybody is leaving something sometime.
Always leaving or being left behind,
We're infamously all the Ramblin Kind.

It's a lonely road I'm speaking of and
These are lonely lyrics rolling off of my tongue.
But there's a tell-tale truth in between the lines:
Everybody is leaving something sometime.

Always leaving or being left behind,
We're infamously all the Ramblin Kind.
Track Name: Monday and a Mountain
I was born on a Monday
In the thickening snow
So, it's safe to say that hard work
Is a habit that lives in my bones.
But, there are times when it seems
A million miles to go
And I know that I'm not alone.
Monday and a starting line--
Monday and a mountain to climb.

It's like when Mamma was a girl
With a red-letter chest
And Pappa was a teenage father
Who would never know rest.
No rest.
Yeah, they were in love
(But the world had expensive style)
So, they sold the keys to the car
Cause the cash would let them breathe for a while...
But just a weekend-while because
Monday is like a bank robbed blind--
Monday and a mountain to climb.
Monday is a fruitless rind--
Monday and a mountain to climb.

Now, every time I look to find
There is a Monday and Mountain to climb
(And I don't know if my legs are going to follow my feet),
I'm reminded there's a fighter that resides in my heart
And he's been knocking out years,
In the face of defeat,
And that's a lovely little victory.

There is a girl with a smile
That could light up a room
But, she lives for the weekend,
Just to find that it flies by too soon.
So, she holds on to Friday
(Like it's the last of its kind)
And, in the blink of an eye,
Her Saturday is a Sunday night.
Damn Sunday night.
Monday after a weekend of wine--
Monday and a mountain to climb.
Monday and a struggle to shine--
Monday and a mountain to climb.
Track Name: Opus of the Pines
Someone lost an awful lot when the West was won--
Someone had to leave it all behind.
They had to turn their back on the best coast line,
The one that hugs right up to the mountain's spine
And where the waves all gather
Like children at a story time
Told by The Pines.

Yeah, someone lost an awful lot when the West was won--
Someone, but not I
Because I come from a long, long line of open spaces
And I was born where the river traces
All of the not-so-subtle graces
Of The Pines.

I often dream of a crooked stream;
It calls to me with a melody
That makes me want to cry--
Or fly.
There is an orchestra hanging on the breeze
And the Mountains rise like tympani,
Always keeping time
To the Opus of The Pines.

I stare at stars when I hear it most
And all of my questions find time:
How do foreground fields fade to background mountains?
How does that moon hang when there is just sky all around it?
And what is beyond that?
No one knows--
Except maybe The Pines.

I often dream of a crooked stream;
It calls to me with a melody
That makes me want to cry--
Or fly.
There is an orchestra hanging on the breeze
And the Mountains rise like tympani ... always ...
Everything is always.
I feel it always.
...Keeping time...
We are always keeping time
To the Opus of The Pines.
Track Name: Stars and Scars
As far as I can tell,
There are three kinds of stars:
One is up in space,
Where only rocket ships are.
One of them is in Hollywood,
Addicted to fame.
The other crossed my path,
To leave me not the same.

I'm one part star--
It's the best part of me.
I'm one part scar--
That part reminds me that I bleed.
All we are is the makeup of our hearts.
All our hearts are Stars and Scars.

In every drop of my blood
There is a piece of the past;
Long forgotten films
Of love that did not last,
Where every star in the credits
Has faded away
(But still finds a way to hurt you
Every time it plays).

I'm one part star--
It's the best part of me.
I'm one part scar--
That part reminds me that I bleed.
All we are is the history of our hearts.
All our hearts are Stars and Scars.

I'm one part star--
It's the best part of me.
I'm one part scar--
That part reminds me that I bleed.
All we are is what happened to our hearts.
All our hearts are Stars and Scars.
Track Name: This Too Shall Pass (Remix)
So, you've fallen behind—
Oh, no, not again.
And you can see that you are
Hard-pressed against a wind
That hits just like a hammer
On a nail that's bent—
Oh no, not again.
Oh no, not again.

Oh, I know these days are hard
And I know it’s hard to last
But, believe you me,
Just sturdy up your heart
And this too shall pass.

If there are wars being waged
But they're not your voice
And if good love has gone away
But it wasn't by choice—
If it's out of your hands
But you just can't let go
And if there's a whole lot on your mind
But a whole lotta no one to show...

Oh, I know these days are hard
And I know it’s hard to last
But, believe you me,
Just sturdy up your heart
And this too shall pass.

So, you’ve fallen behind—
Oh, no, not again.
And you can see that you are
Hard-pressed against a wind
That hits just like a hammer
On a nail already bent—
Oh no, not again.
Oh no, not again.

Oh, I know these days are hard
And I know it’s hard to last
But, believe you me,
Just sturdy up your heart
And this too shall pass.
